Vestibuled
End Platform Cars |
In
the late 1920s two five car sets of end platform carriages were
fitted with enclosed platforms and vestibuled gangways. Set 75,
a Low elliptical roofed set and Set 76, a High elliptical roofed
set were chosen to form a new express service to Mount Victoria.
Commencing the Caves Express service in 1929, Set 75 was
originally finished in blue and russet paintwork. However,
by 1932 the russet window portion had been repainted into Deep
Cream. Whilst Set 75 was superceded by a newer carriage type in
1933, it retained the blue and cream exterior paintwork until
around 1939. A sixth independent car, FA 1423 was also painted
into the Caves Express colours however by 1939 it was repainted
and returned to Set 56. After Set 75 was displaced from the Mt Victoria service it was used on the evening Lithgow service until the early 1940s. Later it received the standard post- war Red and Russet paint scheme. |
