Commencing in 1928 and, through
until 1934, the Victorian Railways constructed 3 batches of
outside sill open wagons. Riveted construction with buffers
these wagons were coded IZ. Nominally rated at 25 tons
capacity.
From the mid 1960s they were
progressively coded RY and many received HY style welded end
replacement panels. Some also received all new steel welded
bodies completely. Most were scrapped by the late 1970s.
Some 60 were converted to KQ
container wagons and 248 were converted to GY wagons for bulk
products.
